the Spirit's victory

i've been told that this whole blogging thing is strange and maybe it is, but i love jesus and if it can even be a glimpse of how wonderful he is to me - that's what matters. what i put on here is what is truly important to me and i want to be honest enough with the world to share some of those thoughts. intimacy with jesus is beautiful, and often secret... but, he also calls us to share it so that others might taste and see that he is good.

today i was thanking God for the holy spirit and for the amazing gifts that he has been bestowing upon me lately. i asked the lord why i overlooked such things for so long, not that i didn't believe them, but i just didn't know they were for me. here was his answer........ God's kingdom is eternal. It has no beginning and no end. The Holy Spirit always existed as he does today. The Holy Spirit always comes in power. The Holy Spirit always takes charge when the man of God submits. Jesus came so that we may have life and have it more abundantly. The church that arose after his death and ressurrection was the beginning of how Christ intended his church to be - powered by the Holy Spirit, running for the cause of Christ, knowing faith is the ONLY thing that pleases the Father, and always hoping for their promised victory. I once thought parts of the Bible were set in the past, and we could find present "application" for today. But it is not. The Word lives in the present and each utterance goes forth to establish the kingdom of God. May we grasp this present truth and carry it. May we receive this God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit as who they really are and always have been.

If He empowered man to do the unfathomable from the beginning of time, how dare we think that we ought to find some better way. If all Moses had to do is follow a pillar of cloud and of fire to lead 600,000 people away from the greatest superpower of his time... why do we think that we need to find a new way to live our lives? preach the gospel? help the needy? save lost souls? or even to pray? Yes, we even ought to pray by the power of the Spirit on all occasions (eph. 6:18). Why would we want it any other way? God is it. The Spirit the dwells within us has the power to do the impossible. He's teaching me how to let him do his job... and it's the most amazing thing i could ever know. i'm seeing things i never saw before, i'm hearing truth that never stripped my soul so bare. discernment comes more clearly. the voice of God overrules my flesh more often. i know joy that i never knew existed. Jesus must really love me. really, i could have lived on without experiencing the christian life in this way, but he wants more for me than i even cared to search for. now i have tasted and seen that he is good, and i want more and more.
